Arrived at Trivandrum and decided to treat ourselves to more up-market accommodation so booked at Residency Towers Hotel ****. (Informed later by our travelling companions that the cost was 50p more than a room at Carlisle Youth Hostel !!)
We spent some time around the zoo, which was better than expected, and two museums in the same complex. We visited local markets and also had a guided tour round the palace, which was very informative.
Breakfasts and evening meals at the hotel were superb and we spent more time in our room than we had anywhere else previously.
When leaving to go to rail station we made sure that we were out of sight of hotel before having to barter with auto-rickshaw driver over fares.
