Sukothai

“Had a really nice day yesterday cycling round the ruins of old Sukothai (Angkor Wat style but not as grand) and a nice hotel room to go back to.”

Our decision to detour to Sukothai was a good one and it turned out to be one of the highlights of Thailand.

This was just the sort of thing that benefited from having a flexible itinerary. As well as cycling for several kilometres around the historical site and outlying ruins of Old Sukothai, we enjoyed spending time in new Sukothai where we stayed for a couple of nights.

This is where you got to see ordinary folk going about their business. It was really good to see the colourful fruit and vegetables displayed for sale on the roadsides and to wander in and out of the local shops and the pancakes we bought from a street stall were delicious.
