“Just to let you know that we have discovered there is life after Indian cities! “
We are in Kochi (which is where we fly home from) and are staying in a really nice place called Anns Residency. It has lovely clean bedclothes and towels and a spotless bathroom.
Kochi is a more touristy place but at this stage of a trip is no bad thing. We quite fancy some of the creature comforts being in a tourist area brings.
It is less smelly, much less traffic and noise and much less rubbish. In fact is seems quite a normal place!
We are booked in to see a traditional Kathkalli dance and music performance tomorrow evening which we are looking forward to. We are going early to watch them put on the make up to make their faces look like a mask!
We are now going to chill out and relax for the last few days. Chill out is not the most appropriate phrase really, I should say ’sweat out’! “
Kochi is an excellent place to end a tour of southern India and we enjoyed our four days here. It has areas catering for the tourist but it is not ‘in your face’ tourism.
Traditional fishing using ‘Chinese nets’ still continues along the shore and a stroll down Bazaar Road to ‘Jew Town’ will take you along by the local traders with their open shop front businesses selling spices, silks, pots & pans.
There is a gentle hustle and bustle, with deliverymen having to vie with cattle, goats, pigeons and chickens for space in the narrow streets. We spent some time sitting watching boats coming and going along the straits and saw a few dolphins as a bonus.
