Kerala

“Sorry we haven’t been in touch for a while but we have been on the move quite a bit this last week. Also the internet places we have seen have not been easy to get to at night or places you would want to sit in! “

We have moved over to travelling by train this last week and it has been so much better. I have actually enjoyed it as I feel much more relaxed and safer than on the buses.

Accommodation is still not what Dad and I want so in the last big place we went and booked ourselves in to a luxury star hotel. It was sheer bliss! We had hot water and a proper bathroom with fluffy white towels. We had super quiet air con and everything was clean! We had our evening meals there for the 2 nights and that was excellent.

Since then we’ve travelled out of Tamil Nadu and into Kerala. All 6 of us have stayed in rooms in a small bed and breakfast in Varkala which was really nice and clean and the owner made a big fuss of us.

Varkala is a strange place with a tacky clifftop development geared for tourists but spoilt somewhat by the rubbish tipped down the cliffs. The inland village is pleasant enough and has some small temples and meandering backstreets.
