Kerala Backwaters

“Today has been really lovely. We have travelled from Kollam to Appelley (Alappuzha) on a boat along the backwaters seeing village life by the water.”

It has been really peaceful and relaxing. We have arrived tonight at a guesthouse which is clean but basic. It seems a nice atmosphere. In fact I am using the computer here.

There is no SKYPE though. There is only one computer so expect it will be well used as the place is full but I have got in quick before we go to bed.

We plan to stay here for 2 days and hope to go out on a ferry to another island.

Then it is our final move to Kochi (Cochin) for 3 nights. Dad and I plan to look for somewhere really nice to finish the trip in style. Will leave the others to it!!

Then it is home. Good as the trip has been I am really looking forward to getting home. So we will be chatting to you all next week.”

The Kerala Backwaters are extensive and hours can be spent just drifting along the quiet waterways. Some are wide lakes but others are very narrow.

All are teeming with wildlife particularly birds. If you’ve never seen a kingfisher, this is the place to go, as there seem to be all over the place (unless it was the same one flying about a lot).
