Chiang Mai

“Just to let you know that we are only staying 2 nights in Chiang Mai. Have seen what we wanted to see but finding it a bit too touristy and very busy. We are on the package tour tourist trail rather than the traveller trail! “

Not going to Pai either as had mixed reports from other travellers and it is a lot of travelling for basically an afternoon and evening there.

So with the extra time we are heading off in the morning to Sukothai. It is south from here and nearly halfwdscn38341ay back to Bangkok.

We will go to Ayuthaya from there and be back on the itinerary.

Will look for somewhere with SKYPE at the weekend if we can. Not everywhere seems to have it but will see what we can find.”

Chiang Mai is a popular centre and seemed very busy after the places we had visited so far. The famous night market is the main attraction and is worth a visit but be sure to look on more than one stall before making a purchase.

We walked to each of three well known wats in the town, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh and then took a sawngthaew for the 12km ride out to Doi Suthep.

This is a sacred temple on 1676 metre peak just out of town and is popular with both tourists and locals.
