Ayuthaya by bus.

“Have arrived in Ayuthaya this afternoon after a long but comfortable bus journey.

The only ‘hiccup’ in our travel arrangements was that the service bus dropped us off on the busy main road quite a way from town rather than at a bus station, or even a bus stop, despite our protests.

Not surprisingly there were one or two locals around with pick-up trucks and motorbikes who were willing to take us to town, for a price. We really had no choice as it was not practical, or safe, to walk along the main road.

We plan to explore the ruins here tomorrow by bike and then take a long tail boat trip around the outlying ruins tomorrow or the day after.

We are also going to see the ruins illuminated one evening which from the postcards look really good. The town itself is not as nice as we thought. We are staying just off the backpacker tourist strip so hoping for a quiet night.

We have already discovered that there isn’t any SKYPE in town. We have been told ‘you are not in Bangkok you know’. We didn’t think it tactful to say we had no problem finding SKYPE in Laos!

Weather is definitely hotting up here. Someone told us yesterday it was around 38 degrees and it felt like it. Even the locals are taking their coats off now! The difference is that it is now staying hot at night too. We have managed to get places with air conditioning so far which helps.
