Our 8 hour train journey from Zagreb to Budapest was comfortable but very slow. As well as several waits for other trains to pass by we had a lengthy stop at the border for our passports and tickets to be checked. Good job we took some food and drink with us as there was no buffet car or food trolley! We had pre-booked our accommodation at the Baros Hotel. It was situated on the 5th,6th and 7th floors of an innocuous looking buillding. Inside it was extremely pleasant and a good choice for our overnight stay. After checking in we went for a walk towards the river Danube. The city is big and busy as you would expect and also suffers from its share of graffiti. To make the most of our short stay here, we have booked a city bus tour for tomorrow morning so we can get an overview of the place. We had a most enjoyable meal down by the river before returning to the hotel.

Friday 30th May. Our bus tour covered both the Buda and Pest side of the city. There was lots to see particularly the Castle area on the Buda side. There are some very impressive buildings. We didn’t have time to get off to explore anywhere so we are putting it on our list of cities to visit in the future. We did stop and have a nice coffee and a cake and a last session of people watching along the main shopping street.
After that our airport shuttle bus got us to the airport in good time. The airport is not large but there are several good eating and drinking facilities and seating areas. Several hours later we were landing in Liverpool and arrived home shortly afterwards.
