As long as 30 years ago we were being told how lovely it was in what was then called Yugoslavia, particularly those areas now known as Croatia & Slovenia. We never made it and began to regret it as the conflicts of the 1990’s put an end to tourism in the area for many years. In recent years tourism has again been encouraged and we decided not to miss the opportunity to explore the region in the Spring of 2008.
We had allocated ourselves 3 weeks but realised that this is not long enough to see the whole of the region. The decision was made to confine ourselves to the coast and islands of Croatia although we realise that there are many beautiful places to see inland. These would have to wait until another time. As a bonus our travel arrangements would take us through Zagreb, and even on to Budapest, but more of this later.
